About the DiDi Rideshare card
DiDi is a ride-hailing service ordered through a mobile app, operating in Australia and New Zealand in major cities and suburban areas. The pattern is a familiar one: you set a pickup point and a destination, see the estimated fare before confirming the order, follow the car on a map and pay inside the app, without cash. Ride classes of different levels are available — from the basic one to options with a roomier cabin — as well as booking a car in advance for a chosen time, which is handy for airport runs. A gift card tops up the account in the app: the funds are credited to the account balance and drawn down against subsequent rides. This format suits handing a transport budget to someone else — an employee on a business trip, a student, or a relative who would rather not link a bank card to the app.
How to redeem the card
- Install the service's app and sign in to the account the funds should be credited to.
- Open the side menu and go to the section for balance, wallet or payment methods.
- Choose the option to add a gift card or promo code and enter the code from the card.
- Make sure the account balance has increased by the denomination of the card.
- When ordering a ride, select the service balance as the payment method — the fare will be taken from it automatically.
FAQ
Can the balance be transferred to another account or withdrawn as money?
No. Once redeemed, the funds are tied to that particular account and can only be spent on rides. That is why the code should be entered in the app of the person the present is intended for.
What happens if a ride costs more than the remaining balance?
The service takes the available balance and charges the difference to the backup payment method linked to the account. If no backup method has been added, the app will ask for one before the order is confirmed.
Are extra charges — waiting time, cancellation, tolls — taken from the balance?
Yes, such amounts form part of the final fare and are covered by the balance in the same way as the base rate. Tips for the driver are usually handled separately and may require a different payment method.
Does the balance work on rides outside the country where the card was redeemed?
The funds are tied to the service's region of operation and to the currency the card was issued in, so as a rule they cannot be used to pay in another country. Plan to use them where the service operates in that currency.
