Viber is a messenger for chat, voice and video calls between app users. Only calls within the service are free; calling ordinary landline and mobile numbers, and sending SMS from the app, draws on a paid Viber Out balance. A Viber gift card tops up exactly that balance: it covers outgoing calls to phone numbers at the rate for each destination and, in some cases, calling plans for a particular country. Funds from the balance may also pay for certain paid items inside the app, such as sticker packs.
