About the Microsoft Store card
Microsoft Store is Microsoft's digital storefront for Windows and Xbox consoles. A gift card tops up the balance of a Microsoft account, and those funds pay for anything in the catalogue: games for Xbox and PC, add-ons and in-game currency, apps, films and series, as well as Game Pass and other Xbox subscriptions. The balance sits in the account and can be spent in stages: if it doesn't cover the whole amount, the rest of the purchase is charged to a linked payment method. The card is tied to the region it was issued for — a value in USD, EUR, GBP or CAD is accepted by an account whose country belongs to the corresponding store zone. This balance generally can't be used for physical goods or for subscriptions to third-party services.
How to redeem the card
- Sign in to your Microsoft account — in a browser, in the Microsoft Store app on Windows, or on an Xbox console.
- Open the code redemption section in the profile menu (the "Redeem a code" option).
- Enter the code from the card without spaces and confirm.
- Check that the amount has been added to your account balance — it's shown in the payment and subscriptions section.
- At checkout, choose the Microsoft balance as the payment method and cover any shortfall with another method.
FAQ
What happens if the account's country doesn't match the card's region?
The code won't be accepted: a card in USD, EUR, GBP or CAD only works with an account whose settings list a country in the same store zone. It isn't worth changing the account's country just to redeem it — doing so cuts off access to any balance already accumulated in the other region.
Can the balance pay for a Game Pass subscription?
Yes, funds from a Microsoft balance can pay for Xbox subscriptions, Game Pass included, provided the subscription is sold in your store region. Auto-renewal draws on the balance until it runs out and then switches to the linked bank card.
Can the balance be transferred to another account or cashed out?
No. Once redeemed, the amount is fixed to that specific Microsoft account and can only be spent on store purchases. That's why the code should be redeemed by the person the gift is meant for.
