About the Shell card
Shell is an international energy company whose retail network of filling stations operates in dozens of countries under a single recognizable shell emblem. The stations sell several grades of gasoline and diesel, including lines with detergent additives, as well as motor oils and car care products. Many sites include a convenience store and a coffee counter selling drinks, pastries, snacks, water, travel items and small automotive accessories. Some stations also offer a car wash, tire inflation and electric vehicle charging. A Shell gift card is used at the register as a means of payment: it covers fuel, purchases in the station store and, where supported, related services. The available categories and the list of participating stations differ by country, since some sites are run by franchise partners.
How to redeem the card
- Check in advance whether a particular station accepts the card — parts of the network are run by partners.
- Fill up or collect your purchases in the station store.
- At the register, say that you are paying with a gift card and hand it to the cashier or read out the code.
- Wait for the charge to go through and check the amount on the receipt.
- If the purchase costs more than the face value, pay the difference in cash or by bank card.
FAQ
Can the card be used to pay for fuel at a self-service pump?
Self-service terminals do not accept gift cards everywhere. It is safer to fill up and then pay inside at the register, where the cashier can see the type of payment being used.
Does the card work at stations in another country?
No — Shell's retail networks in different countries are run separately and operate in their own currencies. The card is used in the country it was issued for.
Is the remaining value kept if I spend less than the full amount?
As a rule the unused portion stays on the card and can be used on a later visit. The remaining balance can usually be checked at the register.
