About the Coop card
Coop is a cooperative retail group that trades under this name in several European countries. The formats vary — from small neighborhood stores and supermarkets to large hypermarkets — and in some countries the Coop name also covers home improvement and building supply stores, electronics shops, pharmacies and fuel stations. Groceries make up the core of the range: fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, dairy, baked goods, dry goods, drinks, frozen food, and a broad line of own-brand products, including organic ones. Beyond food, the stores carry household chemicals, homeware, personal care and pet supplies. A Coop gift card is a way to pay for an everyday grocery basket in the chain's stores in the country the card was issued for: the national cooperatives are independent of one another, so a card from one country is not accepted in the stores of another.
How to redeem the card
- Check which country and which Coop chain the card was issued for.
- Collect your shopping in one of the chain's stores and go to the checkout.
- Before paying, tell the cashier you are using a gift card and hand it over or read out the code.
- If the total exceeds the card's value, pay the difference by bank card or in cash.
- For an online order, where the chain supports one, enter the card code in the payment field at checkout.
FAQ
Can the gift card be used for any product?
In some countries gift cards cannot be used for certain categories: alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets, fuel, bill payments and gift cards from other brands. Check the list of restrictions at the checkout.
Is the card accepted at self-checkout?
In many stores this works. If a self-checkout terminal does not accept the gift card, the payment is processed at a staffed checkout.
Do I need to be a member of the cooperative to use the card?
No, the card is used on the same terms as any other payment. Cooperative membership relates to the chain's internal programs and has no bearing on whether a gift card is accepted.
