About the Bolt card

Bolt is a European urban mobility platform from Estonia. Its app brings several services together: rides with a driver, e-scooter and bike rental, Bolt Drive carsharing, and Bolt Food meal and grocery delivery. Which services are available differs by country and city: in some places only rides operate, in others the full set. A gift card tops up the balance of a Bolt account, and the funds then go toward whatever is available in your city — a taxi ride, scooter rental minutes, an order from a restaurant. Payment from the balance is applied automatically in the app, so there is no need to enter a code before each ride. Cards are issued in the currencies of the countries where the service operates — from Poland and the eurozone to Kenya, Nigeria and Thailand — so it is worth choosing the card currency to match the country where it will be used.

How to redeem the card

  1. Install the Bolt app and sign in to your account or register with your phone number.
  2. Open the payments and payment methods section in the profile menu.
  3. Choose the option for entering a promo or gift code and enter the code from the card.
  4. Check that the amount now shows in your account balance.
  5. When ordering a ride or a delivery, choose payment from the balance — the funds are deducted automatically.

FAQ

Can the balance be spent on scooters and delivery, not only on taxi rides?

As a rule, yes: the balance is shared across Bolt services in your account. The limiting factor is not the card but which services have launched in a given city.

What happens if a ride costs more than the balance left?

Usually the remaining balance is deducted and the difference has to be paid with a linked card, or in cash where that method is available in the country.

Does the country of the card matter?

Yes. The balance is held in the currency of the card and is meant for an account in the corresponding country, so the card is chosen to match the region you will be traveling in.

Can a ride be paid for on someone else's behalf?

You can order a car for a friend from your own account, and it will be paid from your balance. The balance itself cannot be moved to another person's account — for that, the code is handed to the recipient before it is activated.
