About the TheFork card
TheFork is a European restaurant booking service operating in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland and several neighbouring countries, and part of the Tripadvisor group. The app and the platform bring together venue listings with menus, photographs, guest reviews and available slots, and some partners publish special offers for particular hours and days. A TheFork gift card is a voucher for a meal out: the recipient chooses the cuisine, the city and the date, then presents the code when settling the bill at a restaurant taking part in the service's gift card programme. It answers a common problem — you rarely know someone's tastes and schedule in advance, so instead of a particular venue you give them the chance to pick one themselves. Balances are issued in euros and intended for the markets where the service operates.
How to redeem the card
- Open TheFork and filter for venues that accept the platform's gift cards.
- Choose a restaurant, date and time, and book a table in your name.
- When booking, or on arrival, let the restaurant know the bill will be settled with a gift card.
- After the meal, present the code to the staff so the balance can be deducted.
- Pay any remaining part of the bill by your usual method.
FAQ
Do all restaurants on the platform accept this card?
No. Booking is available at a wide range of venues, but payment by gift card only at those signed up to the programme. Participants are visible in the service's filters, and it is worth checking before settling on a date.
What if the bill comes to less than the card value?
How any unspent portion is treated is set by the terms the card was issued under: it may stay attached to the code for a future visit, or be deducted in full. Check the description supplied with your code before booking a table.
Can the card be combined with partners' special offers?
Usually yes, since a partner's offer changes the amount of the bill and the card is applied to the final total. Individual venues set their own limits, so ask about it when you book.
Do I need to book a table in advance to use the card?
Booking through the service is the preferred route: it links the visit to the platform and makes settlement simpler for the staff. A restaurant is free to seat walk-in guests under its own rules, and in that case acceptance of the code is at its discretion.
