About the ALDI card
ALDI is a German grocery chain built on the no-frills format, grown out of the Albrecht family business and split into two independent arms: ALDI Nord and ALDI SÜD. The format rests on compact sales floors, a limited range of lines and a high share of own-brand goods, which keeps everyday prices low. A typical basket covers fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat, bread, dry goods, frozen meals, drinks, household cleaning products and homeware. One distinctive feature is the regular themed intake of non-food items: tools, textiles, sports gear and garden equipment. The gift card is issued in euros and pounds sterling and works as a means of payment in the chain's stores on the corresponding market; it covers an ordinary basket of shopping at the till.
How to redeem the card
- Check which country your card was issued for: the euro and sterling denominations apply to different markets within the chain.
- Collect your shopping in the store and go to a staffed till or a self-checkout.
- Tell the cashier you are paying with a gift card and show its number or barcode, from your phone screen if needed.
- If the basket comes to more than the value of the card, pay the difference in cash or by bank card.
- Keep the receipt: it makes it easier to check how much was deducted and what is left on the balance.
FAQ
Can I buy alcohol and tobacco with the card?
The range of excisable goods and the rules for selling them differ from country to country, and age checks apply at the till. In some stores such items are excluded from gift card payment — check with the cashier.
Does the card work for grocery delivery orders?
Online services have developed differently across the chain's arms and do not accept gift cards everywhere. The most predictable option is paying in store.
What if the purchase comes to less than the value of the card?
The remainder stays on the card until your next visit. The difference is not paid out in cash at the till.
