About the CVS Pharmacy card
CVS Pharmacy is one of the largest pharmacy chains in the United States: thousands of locations in residential neighborhoods, shopping centers and inside supermarkets, plus its own online store. The range is noticeably wider than that of a conventional pharmacy. It covers over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements, first aid supplies and oral care, as well as skin and hair care, color cosmetics, fragrance, household cleaning products, goods for children and expectant mothers, snacks and drinks. Some stores also offer photo services: photo printing, photo books and souvenir items. A gift card is used for purchases on the sales floor and for orders on the chain's website. For certain regulated categories — prescription medicines, tobacco or alcohol, for example — rules vary by state and by location, so such purchases are worth checking at the register.
How to redeem the card
- Gather your purchases on the sales floor, or fill your cart in the chain's online store.
- In store, hand the card to the cashier before the transaction is completed; for an online order, select gift card payment and enter the card number and PIN.
- Confirm that the card value has been applied to the receipt or the order total.
- If the purchase costs more than the card value, cover the difference with a bank card or cash.
- Any unused balance stays on the card — apply it to your next purchase.
FAQ
Can a gift card be used to pay for prescription medicines?
The rules depend on state law and on the practice of the particular pharmacy: in some places the prescription portion of the bill can be paid this way, in others it cannot. Check with the pharmacist before placing the order.
Can several gift cards be used on one receipt?
As a rule, yes: the cashier draws on each card in turn, and you settle the remaining amount with another payment method. For online orders, the number of cards you can apply may be limited by the checkout interface.
What happens when an item paid for with a gift card is returned?
Refunds are normally issued through the same method used for payment, meaning the money goes back to the gift card or onto a new card of equivalent value. Keep the receipt — without it, a return may not be possible.
